Louisiana House Democrats Stand Firm for Fair Representation

BATON ROUGE, La.- Today’s vote in the Senate was both expected and unacceptable. SB121, in its current form, fails to represent the Louisiana we call home.

Louisiana is one of the most diverse states in the South, shaped by generations of Black, white, Creole, Indigenous, and immigrant communities whose histories and contributions largely define our state’s identity. That diversity the foundation of who we are and should not be minimized.

Any congressional map that dilutes that representation weakens the very communities it is meant to serve and will not have our support.

A fair map for Louisiana is a 4–2 map. Anything less ignores both the demographics of our state and the fundamental principle that voters deserve fair and meaningful representation.

This is not a procedural disagreement. It is a question of power, whether communities across Louisiana are fully represented or deliberately diluted in order to shift political control.

As SB121 now moves to the House, we will continue to scrutinize this legislation at every stage, name it for what it is, and stand firmly with the communities who have made their voices heard throughout this process.

The Louisiana House Democratic Caucus will continue working alongside Louisianans across the state to support maps that are fair, lawful, and reflective of the people they serve.
