“We Fought for the People—And We Will Keep Fighting.” Louisiana House Democratic Caucus Chairman Matthew Willard Reflects on 2025 Legislative Session:
BATON ROUGE, LA — As the 2025 Regular Legislative Session comes to a close, Louisiana House Democratic Caucus Chairman Matthew Willard issued the following statement reflecting on the work and resolve of House Democrats to support the people of Louisiana:
“Throughout the 2025 Legislative Session, House Democrats showed up every day to fight for the people of Louisiana. We stood strong against efforts to erode the basic rights of our citizens.
Here are just a few of the fights we led this session:
● Prioritizing Louisiana homeowners by pushing back against policies that favor out-of-state insurance companies over hardworking families.
● Securing critical funding for domestic violence shelters, ensuring lifesaving support for some of our most vulnerable residents.
● Standing up for Louisiana workers by working against bills that threatened job security and economic opportunity.
● Upholding our commitment to teachers by protecting a well-deserved stipend in the budget, recognizing the essential role educators play across our state.
We didn't win all our fights—but others delivered hard-earned victories. From defeating efforts to silence educators in the classroom to protecting funding for domestic violence programs, our caucus remained focused and people-driven.
Our work doesn’t stop with adjournment. We will take this fight to our districts and to the ballot box. The people of Louisiana deserve a government that works for them—not against them. And House Democrats will never stop fighting to deliver just that.”
The Louisiana House Democratic Caucus will continue engaging constituents across the state during the interim period to listen, organize, and prepare for the challenges ahead. Democrats remain committed to building a Louisiana that works for everyone and will continue putting the people first.
